Welcome to the Eugene Buzz

A new bakery opens, UO men's track team dominates the Big Ten, and your events for the week

Good morning, Eugene! Welcome to the inaugural edition of the Eugene Buzz. One day, you can look back and tell everyone that you were one of the 447 people to receive the very first edition. Although I’m not sure it’ll be worth much on eBay in a decade or two…

In today’s Eugene Buzz:

  • 🏃 UO Men’s track team dominates at the Big 10 championships

  • 🥐 A new gluten-free bakery opens in Springfield

  • 📆 Your top events for the week

Let’s get to it.

Snapshots

🦆 UO men’s track and women’s softball teams shine over the weekend

Surprise surprise - new conference, but same old result. The University of Oregon men’s track & field squad took home the outdoor Big 10 title over the weekend, and it wasn’t particularly close. Welcome to TrackTown USA, Big 10.

On the field, the UO women advanced to the super regional with a winner-takes-all victory over Stanford on Sunday. The super regional round will have the Ducks taking on the Liberty Flames right here in Eugene this weekend, with games taking place May 23rd - 25th.

☑️ Turn in those ballots

Election day is TODAY (I’m assuming everyone reads the Eugene Buzz the second it is sent out…right??), so make sure to drop off those ballots! For your ballot to count in this election, it must be received at an official ballot drop site by 8 PM or postmarked today, May 20th. You can find a list of ballot drop sites here.

Business Happenings

🥾 REI is on the move: If you’re a frequent shopper of hiking boots, energy gels, and outdoorsy clothing, then you’re in for a change in 2026. Outdoor retailer REI is moving from its current location at the Eugene Planing Mill Building to the Oakway Center next to Trader Joe’s. The new space will increase the store’s footprint by almost 6x and will make it the 2nd largest REI in the state.

🥐 A new gluten-free bakery is open for business: ESTELLE, a new gluten-free bakery located on Main St in Springfield, is officially open for business. If you’re craving some GF treats today, well, you’ll just have to wait one more day as they are open Wed-Sun from 8 AM to 3 PM. 349 Main Street, Springfield
