Good morning. It's Friday, August 21. This week's food-and-drink vibe is equal parts "ooh, new" and "wait, already?" One Eugene opening is giving your lunch routine a nudge, while Springfield gets a reminder that concepts change and doors sometimes close. Consider this your friendly neighborhood heads-up. Alright, here's today's edition of your Eugene Lowdown.
A New Stop for Filipino Flavor
Jing Jing's Filipino Cuisine opened Monday at 6085 W 11th Avenue, giving local diners a new place to chase lumpia, adobo and other Filipino favorites. The new Eugene location serves from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is expanding the business' reach with a menu built around fresh ingredients.
Oakshire Hits Pause on Main
Oakshire Commons is pouring toward a pause, with regular service continuing through Aug. 30 before the Springfield taproom temporarily closes. The Main Street spot opened last April as an after-work beer-and-pizza hangout, but Oakshire says the concept has not drawn enough steady business and will be rethought over the next few months.
One Less Burger Stop in Town
Cornucopia's Main Street spot in Springfield served its last burgers last Sunday, ending a seven-year run. Fans of the local artisan burger chain still have two Eugene locations to fall back on, but Springfield just lost one of its better-known burger options.
