🏃‍♂️ Records fall over the weekend

The Prefontaine Classic lived up to the hype once again as one of the premier track meets of the year, as two world records fell at Hayward Field over the course of Saturday’s events. Faith Kipyegon lowered her own 1,500m world record while Beatrice Chebet took the top spot on the all-time list in the 5,000m.

💫 Get ready for the County Fair

Dust off your fairy wings and pack your glitter as the Oregon Country Fair is back, and it’s every bit as wild, whimsical, and delightfully weird as you remember. Just a short drive west of Eugene, the fair runs Friday through Sunday, 11 AM to 7 PM each day, with nonstop music, parades, puppet shows, aerialists, art installations, food stalls, and the best people-watching around.

Tickets must be purchased in advance as there are no sales at the gate. Daily passes are $60, and a full weekend pass will run you $150. Kids 12 and under get in free with an adult, and there are discounts for seniors and folks with disabilities.

Expect 17+ stages with everything from folk and funk to fire dancing and street theater, over 300 artisan booths full of handmade treasures, and all your favorite county fair eats.

Parking costs $15, but free shuttle buses will run regularly from Valley River Center and Eugene Station to help you skip the stress.

COMMUNITY HIGHLIGHTS

🔭 Opening of Cosmic Illuminations: An Astrophotography Odyssey: Cosmic Illuminations is lighting up the walls at Community Cup Coffee all month long, and it’s worth a visit. The show pairs stunning astrophotography, actual images of galaxies, nebulae, and star clusters, with dreamy watercolor interpretations that turn deep space into something soft, colorful, and a little bit surreal.

From the Heart Nebula to the Andromeda Galaxy, each piece invites you to pause, sip your coffee, and drift a little further into the stars. Prints and watercolors are available if you feel like taking a piece of the universe home.

If you want to meet the mind behind the magic, artist Genevieve Ma’yet on hand to talk about her art on Saturday, July 20th.

💛 Hearts for Hospice: If you’re not familiar with Hearts for Hospice in Springfield, now’s the time to change that. This local nonprofit runs a stellar resale shop and a warehouse full of gently used medical equipment, furniture, clothing, and more—all donated, all affordable, and all supporting an incredibly good cause.

Need a hospital bed, walker, or wheelchair, and insurance isn’t covering it? They’ve got you. Want to snag some stylish secondhand finds or score a new favorite mug? Head to the shop. Inventory changes constantly, and everything sold helps fund hospice and palliative care programs, grief support, and end-of-life education right here in Lane County.

Resale Shop: 444 Main St. | Wed–Sat, 10am–4pm
Warehouse: 177 S. 14th St. | Tues 10am–1pm & Thurs 12–3pm

They’re always looking for more volunteers, too!
